The Sudak region covers several settlements in the coastal and mountainous areas of the South-Eastern Crimea and the coastline from Privetnoye to Koktebel (Planersky), not including the latter. The area is remarkable for its peculiar landscapes, an abundance of monuments and sights. Here there are unique reserved places - Karadag, Novy Svet, the famous Sudak Genoese fortress.
Sudak has long been chosen by middle-income people and students: prices here are traditionally lower than Yalta. Many interesting people come here for archaeological excavations, various geological expeditions, as well as draw, write poetry and make films. A bit of history
Despite the early epochs of the development of the Crimean coast by the Greeks, they migrated to Sudak only in the Middle Ages .Meanwhile, in the vicinity of Sudak were found traces of sites of the Stone Age period .On Mount Karaul-Oba, as well as in the Kapel Valley at Cape Meganom, archaeologists discovered a cultural layer of prehistoric life dating back to the 2nd century BC .e ., that is, to the period of bronze .And the pioneers of Sudak are the tribes of Sughd, who founded the city here and built the fortress of Sugdey about 212 .According to another version, the pioneers in Sudak were tribes of Alans who appeared in the Crimea in the 2-3th century AD .Anyway, the starting point for the existence of the city of Sudak begins with the construction of the defensive fortress of Sugdei, on the site of which, in consequence, the Genoese build their famous fortification citadel, which today is one of the most famous architectural monuments of the deep Middle Ages in the city .
The further historical destiny of Sudak is closely connected with its nearest neighbors by the cities of Alushta and Feodosia .The same conquerors, oppressors or benefactors, Greeks, Italians, Mongols-Tatars, Turks, Russians .Being a large sea trading port and a transit point in the 12-13 centuries, during the Great Silk Road Sudak flourished .And since 1365 the city was more positioned as an agricultural center .In different epochs and under different national governments, Sudak changed its names, then called Sugdea (Greeks), then Soldier (Genoese), then Surozh (Russian), Sugdak, Surdak and Sudak (Turks) .As a result, "won" and consolidated, after all the eastern name, under which we know this modern Crimean city .
Beaches of Sudak
Sudak bay is shallow, well warmed by the sun, protected from the east and west by capes. The local two-kilometer beach - with a medium-sized gray gravel, and above - shale sand is dark gray.
Sudak and its environs are famous for their unusual beaches .The unusual thing is their curative .We all know that mineral springs and mud can be curative, and probably few have heard of the medicinal properties of sand, let alone medical beaches .In Sudak there are unusual quartz beaches .There is an opinion that quartz purifies water from heavy metals and has bactericidal properties .A sun-warmed quartz sand has a beneficial effect on humans, improving metabolism, microcirculation of blood vessels and contributing to the restoration of the protective properties of the body .It is believed that quartz has a powerful energy and is capable of converting negative energy into positive energy, charging the body with strength and curing diseases .Not surprisingly, Sudak boarding houses are famous for the whole Crimea .

Crimean wine
The culture of the famous Crimean grapes counts more than one century .And the Sudak valley is the cradle of the Crimean winemaking .The official history of the wine industry began for Sudak in 1804, when the winemaking school was opened here .A unofficial or prehistory began in 1783, since the accession of Crimea and Sudak, including the Russian Empire .Pike perch went to Prince Potemkin, who immediately decided to explore new lands, turning this land into a blooming garden .From words to deeds, the best sorts of vines were delivered from Europe to Sudak, hundreds of almond, silk, lemon, hazel and fig leaves were planted in the city and its surroundings .From the documents of the zemstvo council it is known that in 1787 in Sudak 31846 buckets of wine and 300 buckets of cognac were produced, and in 1888 there were already 500,000 buckets of wine from grapes growing on 1600 tons of vineyard .The wine quickly gained popularity and was produced mainly for other provinces and the capital .
But the appearance of domestic champagne, we owe Prince L .FROM.Golitsyn .After studying the technology of winemaking in France and the natural resources of the Crimea, Golitsyn founded in his estate in the village of Novy Svet a small factory for the production of champagne wines .So in Sudak began to produce first-class champagne and vintage wines, the best in Russia .In 1900 in Paris, the World Industrial Exhibition was held, where the Russian champagne "New World" world experts unanimously awarded the highest award Grand Prix .Unfortunately, the best taste, eclipsed by French champagne, has long ago disappeared, in 1905 its last batch was released .But Golitsyn's case continues to live .To date, Sudak is one of the largest winemaking centers in Crimea, one of the most famous in Europe .There are seven wineries and one essential oil plant that produce such unique vintage wines as "Sunny Valley", "Black Doctor" and "Black Colonel", "Dessert Cocker Sourozh" and "Bastardo Massandra" .For branded wines, you should go to the Solnechnaya Dolina company store .And during the whole trip to Sudak, of course, it is a pleasure to be engaged in tasting .

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Sudak
Any coastal Crimean city or village, located in close proximity to the Black Sea, is already a priori resort. And Sudak, located in a picturesque valley and fringed by architectural rocks, with its amber beaches and noteworthy beauties and nature reserves is simply created to be a place for recreation. The city includes the territory of the settlements of the New World, the Sea and the Sun Valley. Behind each of these beautiful and romantic names are beautiful landscapes, interesting stories and curious facts.
For example, in the village of Morskoye, in fact, the "Kino" group was founded, and the locals were the first listeners of the legendary Tsoi, in its composition. True group was originally called "Garin and Hyperboloid," it was in 1981, when the young Leningrad founders arrived in Sudak for a rest. About the village of Novy Svet, we already know that it was founded by Prince Golitsyn, in fact, thanks to champagne. And in the New World, which is considered one of the most beautiful places of Sudak, there are three famous bays: Green, Blue and Blue.
The village of Sunny Valley, apparently got its name as compensation, since from the time of its foundation and until 1945 this place was called the village of Kozy or the village of Koz, probably because of the close location of the epoch of the same name Echki-Dag ("echki" in Tatar "goat"). In the Sun Valley, the oldest grape varieties grow. Vineyards, which were occupied by Greeks and Italians, inhabited these lands, are still preserved. In a word, the villages of Sudak are no less worthy of your attention than the city itself.
Valley of ghosts
Another interesting natural phenomenon of Sudak is the Valley of Ghosts .There is this miracle on the way to Alushta on the rocky massif of Demerdzhi .The ghost valley is a natural conglomeration of bizarre boulders of various sizes .In these stone outlines you can see the silhouettes of people, animals .Mystery gives this house of twilight stones or a fog that spreads over the slope .In conditions of fuzzy visibility, the outlines become realistic and a certain eeriness .So the thrill is included in the travel plan for Sudak necessarily!
And the Valley is famous for the fact that here the scenes from the film "The Caucasian Captive" were shot. There is a tree "Nut of Nikulin" and a stone on which Nina danced and sang.
