Balaklava is a small sleepy town on the Crimean Peninsula, sheltered on the outskirts of Sevastopol, which is definitely worth it to spend a couple of hours or even days at it. . And thanks to the event's rich history, this place once represented a Genoese fortress with a charming view of the Black Sea . The tart taste of the old times is found here at every step: near the ruins of the fortress, which the Genoese once used as an important trading port, until the Ottoman Empire took them under its "cautious guardianship" in 1475 . B m arina, which still remembers the British ships that stood in jail in 1850 before the Crimean War .
Today Balaklava is a pretty resort popular with tourists in the summer, as there are many picturesque beaches in its vicinity that can be reached on the boat. The name of the city has two versions of origin: from the Turkish "fish bag", and from the Crimean Tatar - "fish weather". In addition, the balaclava is called a cap-helmet, which are massively bought up by tourists as a souvenir.
City decoration - Balaklava bay, located between the high rocky mountains. At a narrow, winding strait, it connects to the sea at 1.5 km, and since the rocky coast makes several turns when entering the bay, the harbor is not visible from the open sea at all. Here, during the Crimean War, a beautiful embankment was built, which was originally called the English Embankment, and today - the Embankment. Nazukin, in honor of the hero of the Civil War

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Balaklava
Current view of Balaklava with water is a bright mix of ultra-expensive yachts with shabby, huddling together, fishermen's houses. Like the whole Crimea, today Balaklava stubbornly wakes up and rebuilds after the "Soviet sleep", so sooner or later this "pearl" will still make itself felt: after all this city is one of the most historically rich in the region. For now, more than 50 monuments that belong to us during the Crimean, World War II and civil wars are worth visiting here.
For example, the North and South Forts of World War II on a hill above the sea. Just rise just above the ruins of the Genoese castle Cembalo, where you will see the ancient fortifications and the watch tower. After going around, go back to the Genoese and go down another road - it will take you to the port.
In addition to the fortress, since the Genoese in Balaklava the church - now the Temple of the Twelve Apostles on Rubtsova, 41 (1357) has been preserved. In Soviet times, the house of pioneers was built here, then - the club Osoaviakhim. Only in 1990 the church was re-consecrated in honor of the Twelve Apostles. Take a walk in the outskirts of Balaklava, full of picturesque vineyards, or go to the Valley of Death, which today also overgrew with grapevine.
Maritime Museum
In 1956 Balaklava was donated by Russian councils (represented by Khrushchev) to Ukrainian councils , but the RSFSR left here its naval base, turning the city into one of the most secret places in the Crimea throughout the Cold War. The base was closed only in 1991, but the last submarine left here in 1996. Today on the territory of the former military base is the Maritime Museum
This declassified strategic object of the USSR is a submarine repair factory, which is a huge underground complex with a total area of 5100 sq. m. The legacy of the Cold War, this grandiose structure inside the cut through the mountain contained arsenals with atomic weapons, workshops, deep-water canals, airlock chambers, etc. During the tour, the guide conducts tourists in about an hour on 600-meter docks, huge locks, negotiation rooms and an empty arsenal.
