Durmitor are dozens of snow-white mountain peaks, dotted with clefts and gorges and many glacial lakes .Plus Durmitor is a dense massif of ancient forests that envelop the mountains and hide in their thickets amazing animals, many of which disappear from the face of the earth: brown bears, lynxes, ochoes, wolves, a variety of bird species .Durmitor is under the protection of UNESCO, and its infrastructure is constantly being improved: tourist bases are being built and pedestrian trails are being built to help a person approach the nature of these wonderful places .
On the islands located in the territory of Skadar Lake, there are ruins of ancient monasteries and fortresses. In addition, these places choose for their nesting a lot of migratory birds - there are more than 250 species here. Walking on the lake by boat is an unforgettable adventure.
Not far from the town of Kolasin is the national park Biogradska Gora, most of which is covered by the oldest forest, which is one of the last three forests in Europe, untouched by man. Among the many trees there are those, whose age reaches 500 years, and the height exceeds 50 meters. In these places, many species of birds and insects live, and along the glacial lakes there are pedestrian paths.
Another national park includes Mount Lovcen and the central part of the mountain range around. The park was created in order to preserve the unique pristine beauty of this region, its flora and fauna, its historical heritage. In Lovchen, there are about 1300 species of plants, rare species of animals and birds live, the mountains are covered with caves, crevices and depressions, and clean air and water from local sources only contribute to the development of the richest animal and plant life.
Montenegro is also often called the country of canyons. The canyons of the rivers Mtvitsa, Moraca (depth up to 400 m), Platie and Susice, Plavsko Lake, Ridsko, Visitor, sources of Ali Pasha, waterfalls in the Prokletie mountains are exceptionally beautiful.
