How to Eat Well
The central regions of Serbia and the mountainous regions of Montenegro are famous for simple but very tasty dishes from vegetables, meat and spices. The traditional local dishes include chops with a filling of spices "veshalitsa", famous sausages from minced meat "chevapchichi", fried meat on the spit "cookies", small shish kebabs of pork and veal "razhnichi" and dozens of other meat dishes.
Characteristic a feature of Montenegrin cuisine is the widespread use of cheese. All sorts of "swayed", "kachamak", "zlatibor", "lypsky" and "senichki", as well as local cheese from cow and sheep milk, begin here almost any meal.
Special article - vegetables. They are always served here, regardless of whether it's breakfast or dinner, in the form of independent dishes or simply as a "green snack." Montenegro is also very common fish dishes and seafood. The ear of the "rib chorba" is popular, the Dalmatian goulash is made from various kinds of fish, the trout stuffed with prunes, the fish in the pot in Ohrid, the pilaf with seafood baked in the cream of carp "yaparke" or "papke."
At the resort seashore also Italian food is pizza (take away from 1, 5 euros), pasta, risotto. Also from the stalls sell amazing hamburgers, which are not at all similar to their American counterparts. The Montenegrin hamburger is a huge piece of perfectly roasted meat, which is put on a soft roll and at the request of a hungry customer is supplemented with all sorts of vegetables and sauces (from 2 euros). In the same kiosks there are all kinds of shish kebab, sausages, sweets, etc.
The cost of main dishes varies from 8 to 15 EUR, the most expensive - lobsters and the like exotic fish, which are estimated for weight, for example, 100 g - 12 EUR (therefore, when ordering, it is worth to be careful, then, after enjoying a half kilogram piece of the sea reptile, do not make a mistake with the amount of the bill). Salads cost 4-8 EUR, desserts - 3-6 EUR, soups - 2-4 EUR. On average, for two, you can have excellent dinner for 30 EUR with drinks, a large family of 4 adults and 2 children 70-80 EUR will be enough to eat even in an expensive (by local standards) restaurant.
Desserts
The local products made of flour and desserts "sweet" - the famous pie with curd filling "gibanitsa", simple puff cake with cheese or meat "burek", baked in cheese nuts and plums "shtrukli", cookies of all sorts, walnut sticks and so on. At the resorts, fragrant donuts and Italian ice cream are sold everywhere, which is spread out with balls into crisp sugar horns (from 1 euro).
Drinks
All this is washed down with black coffee, which is consumed in huge quantities. Tea with herbs, honey and various mousses and juices are also popular. The tart montenegrin "Vranac", which counts dozens of varieties, is considered a "visiting card" of local winemaking. Of strong drinks are good grape moonshine "Lozovach" and well-known throughout the world "rakia".
