A bit of history
In the 15th century, during the war with the Turks, the ruler of the country needed to move the capital from Zabljak to a more impregnable place .The city of Cetinje was chosen for this purpose .Then the city lost its former importance, revived in the 17th century, again ceased to be noticeable ... The city flourished in 1860 to 1918, during the reign of Nikola I Petrovich .In general, his fate is not easy .By the middle of the 20th century, the city ceased to matter as a resort, which was completely unfair .Perhaps the sights that can be inspected in it are not so catchy as the interesting objects of coastal cities, but it is Cetinje that is the embodiment of Montenegro .
How to get here
You can get to the city on two main roads: from Budva and from Kotor. Both roads are mountainous, both are full of dangerous turns, according to eyewitnesses - moving on them by car already represents a kind of attraction. It is on these roads that tourists usually come to Cetinje, on cars or buses. But it is from the steep turns of these mountain roads that unforgettable views are opened to the neighborhood.

Hotels, restaurants and souvenirs
You can stay in the city, and do not come to it for an excursion, there are several hotels and restaurants where you can eat. But, if there is no specific interest in its history, it is hardly advisable: the city is small, the tourist interest to it will be exhausted quickly enough.
With souvenirs in Cetinje, the situation is no better than in all of Montenegro: inaccurately made magnets, alyapist plates, strange lace ... Therefore, as a souvenir it is worth buying prshut - a dried ham, grape vodka and local cheese. These products, of course, are not as durable as magnets stuck on the refrigerator, but they will deliver more pleasure, and the idea of the country will be more complete.

Entertainment, Excursions and Attractions Cetinje
One of the most interesting sights of the city is a glass pavilion with a relief map of Montenegro .The map was created by the officers of the Austrian General Staff in 1917 .It is so detailed that you can find almost any house on the territory of the country at that time .And, although this attraction is not so old and significant for the history of the country, like many others, there are always many curious tourists around the map who are trying to find the buildings in which they settled, favorite beaches, monasteries and churches that are going to visit .
The oldest sight of the city is the Vlaska church, built in 1405 by shepherds. It is famous for its wonderful frescoes by Greek masters, as well as the church fence made of weapons taken as a trophy from the Turks during the war of 1876. The palace of King Nikola, built in 1867 in a rather rare session style, is interesting. Here there are spectacular interiors and in which the exhibits of the National Museum of Montenegro are now exhibiting the full drama of the country's history.
Other places of interest: Vladin House (the former Government House, now the National Gallery is open), the house of the Prince Bishop, the rich Museum of Local Lore (1871), the residence of King Peter II, the Blue Museum, the Art Gallery, the Central Historical Museum and many other interesting places.
Cetinsky Monastery
The Cetinsky Monastery (1484-1785) is the residence of Montenegrin metropolitans, one of the most important shrines of Christianity is here. In the monastery you can bow to the hand of John the Baptist, part of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, and also see such a curious thing as the shroud embroidered with the hands of the Russian tsarina Catherine II. On the territory of the monastery worked the first Montenegrin printing house, published in 1493 the first book in the South Slavonic language in Cyrillic type - Octoechius (it can be found in the monastery museum).
Mausoleum on Mount Lovcen
At the top of the mountain Lovcen (1660 m), which is connected with many pages of the history of the amazing country of Montenegro, is the mausoleum of the poet and philosopher Peter Negus .Even during his lifetime, the lord ordered to bury himself in a small chapel on the mountain, from which a stunningly beautiful panorama of the neighborhoods opens .The chapel was destroyed during the war with the Austro-Hungarians, but in its place was built a mausoleum, to which tourists constantly go, wishing to honor the memory of the outstanding poet and philosopher .The most convenient way to get to the Lovcen National Park is from Cetinje, it takes about 30 minutes by car or car .Further, the climb to an impressive number of steps .
