In the forest zone of the National Park of Mount Kenya, there are buffaloes, elephants, dukers (crested antelopes). For wild animals it is best to watch from the observation deck Mountain Lodge, built near the source. Mount Kenya (150 km from Nairobi) is the second highest peak in Africa with peaks of Batian (5199 m), Nelion (5189 m) and 11 glaciers. Among the eternal snows and alpine meadows, many rivers originate, including the most abundant Kenyan river Tana.
On the slopes of Mount Kenya is the National Park; they intersect with dense thickets of plants, constantly changing with increasing altitude. Beginning at an altitude of 2000 m, the slopes are covered with a dense equatorial forest: the species of plants here are unusually numerous and diverse - among them cedars, olive trees, ferns, lianas, giant bamboo.
An amazing mixture that almost makes us forget that we are in Africa! But the animals here remind us that the forest is a refuge for numerous wild birds, herbivores, buffaloes and elephants, and even for some large felines, such as the lion and the leopard; you need a sharp eye to distinguish them in this dense forest.
