The Valkjavenna ski area, located in the Vallée-Spluga Valley, also known as the Val San-Giacomo, extends from the Šplugenpass Pass on the border with Switzerland to the Chiavenna province in the south.
Madesimo, known since ancient times as a thermal resort thanks to its mineral spring, since 1729 has gained wide popularity as a prestigious ski center where many celebrities spend their holidays. Thanks to a suitable climate, the slopes of Pizzo Groppera (2948 m) are covered with excellent snow that lasts until the middle of spring. Here 55 km of first-class trails. How to get here
By train from Milan to Chiavenna with a transfer to Colico. From Chiavenne to Madesimo by bus. The stop is located opposite the train station. In winter, a direct bus service is available from Milan to Madesimo.

Traveling from Milan, take the SS 36 road to Lecco, Colico and Chiavenna, then turn to Madesimo (138 km).

The resort of Madesimo, which is a small village, is located at an altitude of 1550 meters above sea level and is equipped with 27 trails of varying degrees of complexity: 15 blue, 9 red and 3 black.
In the rolling area of Valkjavenna along with Madesimo includes the village of Campodolcino, the villages of Motta and Montespluga, as well as the Val di Leya area. Underground cable car "Sky Express", connecting the village of Campodolcino (1066 m) with the village of Motta (1720 m), overcomes almost 700-meter elevation difference in 3 minutes and stops right at the slopes. The slopes descending from the Pizzo Groppera to the Rifugio Val di Ley are called the Val di Leya area - there are 4 red routes here.

There is in the Campodolcino and the Via Spluga museum, located in a building known as "Palàzz", rebuilt in 1777 .The museum collection is dedicated to various types of transport, handicrafts and traditional occupations of villagers, among which "grapàtt" - grappa producer, forest ranger, artisan for wood and iron, as well as working quarry .Special attention should be paid to the situation of the building, reproduced with the use of authentic materials .In winter the museum is open daily except Monday from 10:00 to 12:00, on Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 18:00 .In July-August and on official holidays - Mon .: 09: 00-12: 00, Tue .- Fri .: 09: 00-12: 00, 16: 00-18: 00, Sat ., Sun .: 10: 00-12: 00, 16: 00-18: 00 .The admission ticket costs 4 EUR (the prices are as of December 2011 .) .
A 30-minute drive from Madesimo in the village of Justo di Piuro (2 km from Chiavenna) is located one of the most prestigious palaces of Lombardy - Vertemate Franchi Palace, built in the 16th century by the brothers Vertemate .The palace is the only building that survived the landslide of 1618, flooded the whole village, and is a beautiful masterpiece of the Renaissance era .On the territory of Vertemate-Franci there is an orchard and a vineyard, and its internal premises are richly decorated with arched ceilings and frescoes .The Palace is open to visitors in the spring / summer, the entrance fee is 6 EUR .
Of other nearby attractions, the Palazzo Salis, built in 1600-1690, which for a long time was the residence of the aristocratic family Salis von Tsitsers, is of historic value. From April to October, guided tours are organized around the palace: Mon. - Sat. at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, and from Thurs. on Sat. in addition at 14:30 and 15:30.
