Charming Urbino (Urbino) - the first stop of most tourists going to the picturesque Marche area .Which is not surprising: the city grew and gained political importance, having been in the possession of the Montefeltro house since the 13th century, more precisely its head - Federigo de Montefeltro .It was he who gathered all the prominent artists, architects and artists of the time to create a kind of "think tank" of the Renaissance period .The local university still dominates the life of the city, diluting the quiet evening of Urbino with noisy student parties .

How to get here
Adriabus organizes about 15 buses per day between Urbino and Pesaro (3-4 EUR, on the way 55 minutes). Trains to Urbino do not ply, so you need to get to Pesaro first.

Parking
However, it should be borne in mind that it is unlikely to enter the inner city walls, it is necessary to leave the car in a parking lot nearby, for example, at Piazza Mercatale. From there, to the city center, Piazza della Repubblica, you can take a taxi (0722 25 50) or shuttle bus. Also, you can not leave the car on Piazzale Roma on Saturday morning, because at this time the market is unfolding there.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions Urbino
The main attraction of Urbino, which became a significant reason for the city's inclusion in the UNESCO list, is the palace of the Dukes of Urbino with a picture gallery, frescoes and a collection of magnificent sculptures (admission ticket 4 euros).
However, most tourists begin their tour of the city from Borgo Mercatale Square, which is near the bus station, where curious travelers arrive. There, on the square, there is an information center where you can take a map of the city free of charge and then, armed with everything you need, you can safely set off.
In the city will lead the ancient gate of Porta Valbona and the wide Via Mazzini, which ends at the lively Piazza della Repubblica. From there, turn left and exit along San Francesco Square on Via Raffaello. Nearby is the house of Raphael (Casa Raffaello) - the first mandatory stop on the way, because it was in this building on April 6, 1483, a brilliant painter was born.
Inside there is a museum with canvases by Giovanni Santi and objects from the 15th century, as well as the youthful work of Raphael - the first of his "Madonna".
Continue to walk around the city further up the Via Raffaello to the monument to Raphael (1897), with panoramic views of which offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. An even better panorama can be found by following the road that leads from the monument to Raphael along the fortress wall to the north-west, parallel to the Viale Buozzi street. There, in the wall, there is a small gate (not reaching Fortezza Albornoz fortification), which will lead the travelers to the stairs to the earthen rampart - Parco della Resistenza. Breathtaking views are guaranteed.
Enjoy the architecture of the majestic palace of the Dukes, you can climb up the steep Via Barocci to the Oratorio di San Giuseppe chapels (16th century) and the Oratorio di San Giovanni (14th century). And, of course, do not miss such an important landmark of the city, like the cathedral. Inside - paintings by Federico Baroccio, Timoteo Viti and Piero della Francesca. Other attractions of Urbino: the church of San Domenico with bas-reliefs of Luca della Robbia, the church of San Spirito with the painting of Luca Signorelli (1445), University, founded in 1506.
