Palermo is a city of contrasts: one of its streets is in ruins, the second one glitters with bright tinsel of fashionable hotels and boutiques with dizzying prices. . But who can find a common language with its continuing energy, complete non-observance of traffic rules and universal chaos, fall in love with him forever . Unlike Florence or Rome, many of the treasures of this city are hidden, and do not shine, scraped by hundreds of thousands of shoes of an endless stream of tourists . Prepare for research: Palermo can boast of a gigantic cluster of two orts, castles and churches with a unique blend of architectural styles of Byzantines, Arabs, Normans or Renaissance buildings . Other side Palermo is a city of modernity, wide avenues, seductive shops and beautiful 19th century mansions .

Once Upon a Time and the Arab Emirate and part of the Norman kingdom, Palermo became Europe's greatest city in the 12th century. But in recent years his fame has passed, mainly because of the burning headlines of tabloids about murder and political corruption. The Mafia is still holding the city by the throat, many local people are demanding 24-hour police surveillance, which, however, may very soon become a reality.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Palermo

The ancient capital of the island, Palermo now represents a large port city with Istanbul streets, Arab mosques, converted into churches and palaces of Norman kings. It does not have many attractions in the "Roman" meaning of the word.

The nearest beach to Palermo is located in the town of Mondello - a famous tusovka place in the summer; the beach is sandy.

The city's business card is its churches, which are almost three hundred here. The historical center of Palermo Quattro Canti is considered the second largest in Italy. The complex of the Norman Palace with the Royal Chapel of Palatine, the complex of the Royal Palace, the Chiaramonte palaces, the Abatelis and Sciafante palaces, the Pretoria fountain, the Capuchin catacombs and the observation platform on Monte Pellegrino (600 m), offer an impressive panorama of the city and the sea. @@

Types of Palermo

It is worth visiting the International Museum of Puppets and the Museum of Islam in the Castello della Zisa Castle complex. Nearby is the famous opera house "Massimo", where tourists wander not so much to listen to the opera, as to be photographed against the background of the famous staircase, which became the backdrop of the tragic denouement of the movie about the godfather. Well, the local market of Vucciria is the life and customs of modern Palermo "in the flesh."
