Cuisine and restaurants Genoa
As early as 1574, the first "Corporation of Producers of Pasta" was established in Genoa with its own charter. Genoese cuisine is known far beyond Italy. There are so many "typical" recipes invented in the city that everything can not be enumerated. Therefore, it is easier to go to a restaurant (and there are a lot of them) and try everything you like.
If we talk about the main "culinary sights" in a nutshell, then it's worth to try the world-famous Pesto alla Genovese sauce, pasta with it is excellent! Also - Focaccia all'olio d'oliva and La cima alla genovese. And of course, one can not ignore the freshly prepared sea fish that local fishermen catch near the city.
Shopping and shopping
Genoa is an ideal place for shopping, there are plenty of designer boutiques, and large outlets, and antique shops, and shops with fresh products from farms and surrounding vineyards.
In the center of the city, on Via XX Settembre, which starts from Piazza Ferrari, it is worth looking for boutiques of eminent Italian designers and world famous brands such as Mexx, Zara, Benetton. In addition, after wandering for an hour or two on the historical core of Genoa, you can stumble upon small souvenir shops and junk shops, bookstores and even flea markets.
A large shopping center Fiumara can be found at the railway station Sampierdarena. To get there, accordingly, is the easiest way by train, leaving the station then turn left, walk along the bridge and then again turn left at the sign of Fiumara. On the road no more than 10 minutes, it's impossible to get lost, as the shopping center is visible from the opposite end of the bridge. In addition, there are buses 1, 2, 4 and 22. Working hours: 9: 00-21: 00 Mon-Sun. Children and husbands can be left in a nearby theater or entertainment center with bowling and lots of restaurants.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions Genoa
Everyone says that to look at Genoa you need to start from the sea, from the atmosphere of the ancient port, especially beautiful at sunset. Take a walk in the old town, of course, it is very important to understand Genoa. The historical center still preserves the charm of a medieval city, surrounded by a ring from the walls of the fourteenth century.
A city tour is recommended to begin with the Palazzo San Giorgio, which is located in the historic port. The palace was built in the middle of the 13th century and is now a clear example of the architecture of the medieval Renaissance. Then you can walk to the city center, where Piazza Bianchi Square is located, which has always been the commercial heart of the city.
Further down the street is San Luca (San Luca) you can walk to the Palazzo Spinola di Pellicceria, which now houses the National Gallery of Liguria (Galleria Nazionale della Liguria). The interior walls of the gallery are made in the Baroque style, and inside is located very expensive, valuable furniture and beautiful ceramics Albisola. Very interesting is the gallery of mirrors (Galleria degli specchi).
Street Garibaldi (Via Garibaldi) - one of the most famous in Italy. A street with such a name is present in almost every Italian city. In Genoa in the 500 years there lived a local nobility.
It is definitely worth a stroll through the Piazza de Ferrari, Piazza di Sant Agostino, to Palazzo Ducale, Piazza San Matteo, Via Orefici, and for shopping streets Luzzoli (via Luccoli) and Cassana Vizzo (Casana Vico).
In early 2010, before the visitors opened their doors a new museum - a submarine Nadzario Sauro (Nazario Sauro), demobilized from the Italian Navy and donated to the Galata Sea Museum.
