A paragraph of history
Harkany has a rich history, according to archaeological data, the Huns and Avars lived here more than a thousand years ago, and the first mention in the chronicles dates back to 1323. Even the Turks, who owned this part of Hungary, knew about the curative water, which saves all the ills, but after they left, they forgot about this secret. And the source was reopened in the early 19th century.
Local landowner Earl Battyani decided to build a water drainage channel here, in order to improve the irrigation system of his lands. Workers who dug the canal were surprised to find that in a couple of weeks instead of the expected pain in the limbs and joints, they, on the contrary, feel the ease and disappearance of the once-tormenting "sores". The glory of the local fetid but curative water quickly spread in the neighborhoods, and now a huge number of people who heard about the healing spring rushed to the property of the Battyani family.
Seeing such an excitement, the Battyani family in 1925 opens here the first bathhouse, which gave rise to the history of the famous all over the world of the therapeutic resort of Harkany.
