In the western and southern regions of the country grow mainly Pinot Gris, Gevurztraminerera, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and such a purely local variety , as Czerzegi Feseres. Fine white wines from this region have a rich taste and a bright bouquet. The area of Shomlo, thanks to volcanic soils, is famous for its concentrated white wines from the blend of Furmint, Harshevel and Juhfark varieties. The legend says that wine drunk before the wedding night guarantees the conception of the heir (there is no reliable statistics)

Seskarde produces one of the best red Hungarian wines - "Bull's Blood". Wine from Kadarka is widely known: its taste is determined by local varieties of grapes Kekoporto, Kekfrankosh and Kadarka
Tokajskoe wine

In the northeast of Hungary varieties Blaufrankisch, Kekoporto and Zweigeltu are common. But the most famous wine of this region is Tokaji Aszu. At the beginning of the 16th century, the production of this magnificent wine began. Tokaj is one of the northernmost wine regions of the country. Long and warm autumn, frequent fogs, impregnating the grapes with moisture and contributing to the growth of the Botrytis Cinerea fungus did their job: the wine from this region became one of the most prestigious in Hungary. It was especially loved by the French court.

According to legend, Louis XIV, the Sun King, having tasted Tokay, said: "This is the wine of kings and the king among the wines." Since then, on all bottles with the famous Tokaji Aszu flaunts this phrase, translated into Latin: Vinum Regum, Rex Vinorum!

Unfortunately, two world wars, years of socialist economy and the collapse of the Soviet Union (the largest importer of Hungarian wines) caused serious damage to the winemaking in Hungary. But serious private investments made in the industry in the 90s of the last century allowed the revival of glorious centuries-old traditions.
