Each policy of Ancient Greece had its own Acropolis, but none of them can surpass Athens in scale, planning and concentration of so many monuments of past eras.

Without it, the capital of Greece is simply unthinkable, it is rightly considered its business card, a real mecca for tourists from all over the world. Here time dies, it is frozen in the impeccable elegance of architectural forms. Everything here looks majestic and striking in its scope and monumentality, evidencing the high level of development of the culture of the ancient Greeks and for centuries remaining a model of world architecture.

Initially, on the hill of the Acropolis was the imperial palace, and the 7th century BC, laid the foundation of the first and most significant temple - Parthenon . It affects not only its size, but also a special layout - it can be seen in the volume . If you look at the building from the central oroth, there are simultaneously three walls . The secret is that the Parthenon columns are located at a certain angle to each other, this is due to a number of other interesting architectural features . And the main decoration of the temple was a statue of Athena, made of ivory and gold . Approximately in the V century BC it was taken to Constantinople where it burnt down during a fire .

No less grandiose and Erechtheinon built on the site where the legendary dispute between Poseidon and Athens took place. Here, in the sanctuary of Pandora, an olive branch was kept, and a spring of salt water flowed. In addition to this, there are famous sculptures of Caryatids in the temple - six beauties that replace the temple columns, many friezes and a preserved mosaic.

Also stands the temple of the goddess Nicky, who, according to legend, the Athenians left without wings, so that she did not fly away, and the victory was always behind them. This is a truly legendary place - it was here that Augei waited for his son Theseus, and in a fit of desperate desperation jumped into the sea. And there is an ancient theater of Dionysus near where the dramas and comedies Aristophanes and Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides represented. Before, it was possible to enter the Acropolis through the huge gates - the Propylaea, which is a masterpiece of architectural art and was called "the brilliant face of the Acropolis."

In one of their parts of the gate was placed the world's first art gallery.

Of course, the influence of time are even monumental structures of the Acropolis, so that everything that can now be seen there, is pretty much destroyed. Many more changed the face of the "upper city" of the numerous destruction and ruin that occurred at different times. But, nevertheless, the Acropolis of Athens amazes us with its elegance, luxury and perfection even while in ruins.

About the Acropolis in Athens for sure heard each of the tourists. But what an indefinite feeling filled me when I stood opposite this masterpiece, which is so beautifully told in books and films.
He is huge, majestic and powerful. We went to look at him twice. In the morning and in the evening, when it was already dark. In the evening, and especially beautiful at sunset, the view here is stunning, it feels like you were in a fairy tale of ancient Greece.
Lovers of history here will be very interesting. and those who believed ... Read the full review

I've always been interested in Greece, because this is a country with its preserved traditions and history, delicious cuisine, as well as interesting sights.
My trip to Greece was not planned, but it was very exciting. On arrival we settled in the hotel. We often walked around the night city, looked at different places. Most of all in Greece I was struck by the Acropolis. We visited this place on Saturday morning, the day was sunny and clear. It is best to go in the morning, otherwise it will be too ... Acropolis is able to fully fill in the opinion January 29, 2014

I've never been attracted to the Acropolis. I could not understand what could be like in the columns standing high on the mountain. I do not see the point. When I got here, the opinion completely changed. The columns are so high, and the view downwards is so impressive that you can not remain indifferent. We arrived here early in the morning, when people were hardly there to hear the sound of the wind walking between the columns. It's really impressive, even the goose bumps start running around and get scared of this greatness!

I heard about the Athens Acropolis from school . Passed the history of ancient Greece, and of course, could not help talking about this place. I have visited Greece and Athens only this year, in September. Athens itself disappointed me very much: a dirty, plundered city, many neglected and abandoned houses. And the Acropolis was no exception, and when I saw it, my ideas from childhood evaporated instantly. First, there is now a reconstruction that spoils the view. Secondly, this is such a popular place that ... Read the full review

I can say that I represented imagine the famous Acropolis a little differently - more beautiful, more diverse. In fact, around the piles of stones, almost completely destroyed buildings. Despite the fact that on the eve of the excursion I read a book with illustrations of what the mountain looked like before it reached the place, could not remember where it was. It is very difficult to orient, when around the monotonous destroyed columns and buildings. The cranes are supposed to be undergoing reconstruction, but my aunt who lived in Athens ...
