Kiel (Kiel), located on the shore of the eponymous bay, is the capital of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. The city is considered the birthplace of the "Kiel Week" - one of the most important events in the world of sailing.
Kiel was badly damaged during the bombing in the Second World War, when almost all the historical monuments of the city were destroyed. Most buildings, including the Kiel Castle, were rebuilt after the war.
