Erfurt, located just 40 km from the geographical center of Germany, is the capital of the state of Thuringia.
The bombing of the Second World War left its mark on the general appearance of the city, but its many pearls, such as the Erfurt Cathedral and Severikirche, winding streets, the restored Old Town and one of the most interesting bridges in Europe, attracted spectators from all over the world.
How to get here
By train from Berlin (the fare is 47 EUR, the journey time is 3 hours 15 minutes), Dresden (42 EUR, 2 hours 15 minutes), Frankfurt (46 EUR, 2 hours 15 minutes), Leipzig and Dusseldorf. There is also a direct connection to Meiningen (15 EUR, 1 hour 30 minutes), Mühlhausen (10 EUR, 45 min.), Weimar (4.4 EUR, 15 min.) And Eisenach (9 EUR, 50 min.)
Erfurt has its own airport. The company "Cirrus Airlines" performs several flights a day from Munich to Erfurt. The climate is temperate with an average annual temperature of 8 degrees. The warmest months are July and August, when the thermometer's column rises to a mark of 23 degrees. The coldest month is February, when the temperature drops to -4 degrees. The driest weather usually happens in March, and rains are frequent in June, when the greatest amount of precipitation falls.

On the street Krämerbrücke you can buy unique handicrafts and souvenirs. The shops are located along the streets of Anger, Bahnhofstraße, Schlösserstraße and Marktstraße. Large shopping centers: "Anger 1" in the city center; "Thüringenpark" on Nordhäuser Straße 73 and TEC ("Thüringer Einkaufszentrum") on Hermsdorfer Str. 4.
Kitchen
World-famous sausages "Thuringer Bratwurst" comes from Erfurt. In the city there are many stalls where you can try this delicacy. German cuisine is prepared at the Tolle Knolle restaurant on Lange Brücke 53. In the very center of the city you can look in the restaurant Erfurter Brauhaus, also offering local cuisine, or in Lutherkeller. And in the "Haus Zur Pfauen" there is even a small brewery.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Erfurt
The Erfurt Cathedral and the Church of Severikirche form a beautiful architectural composition and are symbols of the city.
An integral part of the urban landscape is the Kremerbrücke bridge of 1325 crossing the Gera River. On the bridge there are 32 residential buildings, and on each bridgehead bridge there is a church, one of which, Egidenkirche, is still functioning.
In the old Augustinian monastery Augustinerklooster, Martin Luther lived during his studies at the university. The city is one of the oldest synagogues in Europe, built in the 11th century - now a museum of treasures.
