Strasbourg is the capital of Alsace, the intellectual, cultural and industrial center of northeastern France . Located 3 km from the Rhine, in the most immediate neighborhood of Germany, Strasbourg is a true international fusion: here you can easily hear German speech and refresh yourself beer with brezels in the seemingly canonical French brasserie . Even the name of the city itself sounds quite German, and if you are not geared to geography, Strasbourg can be attributed to the succession of other German "burgs" . At the man in the street Strasbourg is associated primarily with international human rights organizations: the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights placed their offices here . But without these big names in Strasbourg there is something to see: the old city and the channels of "Little France", flying peaks Notre Dame and the collections of the Alsatian Museum, old mansions, art galleries and botanical gardens .

Cuisine of Strasbourg
French dishes with a German flavor, German dishes with a French hue - so you can briefly describe the Strasbourg cuisine. It is worth to try onion pie and foie gras, a rabbit marinated in wine, and baeckeoffe - a dish of potatoes with three kinds of meat: lamb, pork and beef. And of course, drink all this splendor with fine Alsatian wines, beer or schnapps.

As in other major European cities, there are many famous brands. However, the most unforgettable impression is Christmas shopping. Entertainment, excursions and attractions in Strasbourg
To the indisputable masterpieces of the historical center, which is compulsory to visit, is the Strasbourg Cathedral, an amazing monument of Gothic architecture of the 15th century, which for four centuries was the highest Christian church in the world. There are many medieval sculptures on the outside and stained glass inside. The zest of the cathedral is an astronomical clock, every day at 12:30, releasing from its depths a string of apostles. (At 12:00 in the cathedral a film about the history of creation and the clock mechanism is shown.)
Kammertzel's house is an excellent example of a half-timbered architecture of the 16th century: diagonal wooden beams filled with bricks and adobe material. In addition to admiring the facade, you can dine at a small restaurant.
"Little France" is the most picturesque quarter of Strasbourg with miniature houses built among the canals, as it seems, on the very water surface. Here are the famous 13th century Les Ponts Couverts, which once protected the city from invasions from the other side of the river Il.
The Protestant Church of St. Thomas is an example of Gothic Alsatian architecture. In the choir of the church there is the mausoleum of Marshal de Sachs: the burial pomp of the Baroque of the XVIII century with a lot of curls, weighty vignettes and figures of boundless sorrow.
In addition, you can visit the buildings of European human rights organizations; as a rule, only in the group and by prior arrangement.
Finally, Strasbourg offers its guests a variety of tours around the area: wine tours and mini-cruises along the Ile and the Rhine river, golf tours, air travel on small aircraft and trips to the Alsatian forests. Photo of Strasbourg (45)
