History
For the first time in documents Honfleur is mentioned in 1027 as the possession of one of the Norman dukes . During several years of the Hundred Years War, he passed from hand to hand, and therefore underwent considerable destruction . Was one of those cities from which in the 15th century the French pirates attacked the British . In the 17th and 18th centuries, Honfleur became rich due to the fact that commercial bark was sent from here in the American colonies . Today the cargo turnover of the port is rather modest, the port has ceased to be significant for the economy of France, but it is still interesting for tourists .

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Honfleur
A wonderful bay, almost regular rectangular shape, along three banks of which there are ancient colorful houses, amazes the traveler who first came to Honfleur with his almost sham. In fact, everything here is real: houses, ships, embankments. To forget this spectacle is impossible, and many return to this city again and again, especially since there are many beautiful and interesting places around it.
In the same city, not only the old streets were preserved, but also a port where fishing boats moored daily, and delicious dishes from fresh fish are prepared in restaurants. On the shore of the harbor stands the Gothic style church of St. Stephen, it houses the city museum, the exposition of which can tell a lot of interesting information about the life and history of the city and the coast.
Among the architectural attractions of Honfleur, one can not help but mention the Church of St. Catherine, the largest wooden church in France .It was built in the 15th century, during the Hundred Years War, by local masters-shipbuilders, and therefore in its appearance there is a clear similarity with the ship .Until now, the Church of St. Leonardo, famous for its frescoes .Talk about the architectural style of it is quite problematic: the oldest part is built in the Gothic style, the newer parts were built in the 17-18 centuries and the Gothic had only an indirect relationship .
In the city there are many structures of half-timbered style, and, basically, these are 2- and 3-storey houses .Slum Honfleur and a remarkable engineering structure, which appeared here quite recently: across the mouth of the Seine was a bridge called "Normandy", and connected Honfleur with Le Havre .In size, the bridge is the second largest in the world: its length is 2141 meters, it stands on 184 supports, the bases of which go deep by almost 50 meters .It is possible that after a few centuries travelers will admire and admire this building just as our contemporaries are admiring the old port in Honfleur .
Art people in Honfleur
When the port began to lose its former importance in the city's economy, Honfleur became an extremely picturesque suburb of Le Havre, which could not pass unnoticed among numerous French artists .Camille Corot, Claude Monet, Eric Sati, Georges Seurat, Pierre Renoir, Paul Cézanne have been here many times and drew inspiration from the most beautiful landscapes, the special transparency of the local air and the extraordinary picturesque harbor .In general, Honfleur was incredibly popular with artists who worked in the early 19th century, and it seems that each of them tried at least once to visit this city .
River Cruise
Fans of cruises should take note that Honfleur is the final destination on the cruise route across the Seine: Paris - Vernon (Giverny) - Les Andelys - Rouen - Kodebeck - Honfleur. The route is interesting because it gives you not only beautiful landscapes and interesting monuments of history and architecture, but also to see the country's life.
