Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Marseille
Notre Dame de la Garde (Notre Dame de la Garde) is the symbol of Marseilles. From June to July the monastery has very detailed one and a half hour excursions in French (3 EUR). For 5 EUR you can climb to the roof of the cathedral, from where the amazing view of the city. Not far from the cathedral is the abbey of St. Victor (Abbaye Saint-Victor) with the most interesting and open to visit catacombs.
From the Old Port (le Vieux Port) depart tourist boats to the Friuli Islands and to the castle of If. Cours Julien and Place Jean Jaurès are two cultural centers of the city, as well as the most youthful part of the city. Here are the most interesting book and second-hand books, trendy informal shops, clubs and cafes. And on Thursdays and Saturdays, early in the morning, a flea market is set up on Jean-Jores Square.
Chateau If (Château d'If) - a former prison, located on a small island (which A. Dumas gave a fairly romantic flair in one of the books about the earl of Monte Cristo). Now the castle is open to visitors, but inside there is nothing except stone walls and grids. If there is a possibility and free time, it is better to take the boat west of Marseilles and see Calanques.
Calanques are sometimes called French fjords - several bays near Marseille, with ridges and rocks protruding into the sea.
Other attractions: the museums of Marseille, Palais Longchamp, today the Museum of Fine Arts is open, Le Panier is the old Corsican district of Marseilles, the former poorhouse, and now the la Vieille Charite concert hall, a stunning architectural ensemble 17th century), the Radiant City (La cite radieuse) is a 17-story residential building built by Corbusier. Inside there are a church, a shopping street and a school.
- To see how a man lived in an iron mask in the Castle IF.
- Visit the radiant city of Le Corbusier and try to live in utopia.
- Eat a delicious fish in the restaurants of the Old Port.
- Wander into the Arab Quarter and feel yourself on the shores of North Africa.

Under the project, this city was supposed to be capable of autonomous existence - in addition to the residential sector, there are a shopping street, a school, a hotel and other institutions necessary for life. The city is located in the distance from the center and it is necessary to get by taxi or by public transport.
