The capital and the largest city of Finland is the city of Helsinki, located in the south of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea.
Helsinki along with the satellite cities of Vantaa, Espoo and Kauniainen forms the metropolitan region of Finland. In addition, Helsinki is the center of business, education, culture and science in Finland
The city was founded in 1550 by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa, since 1812 it was the main city of the Grand Duchy of Finland as part of the Russian Empire, and only at the end of 1917 Helsinki becomes the capital of independent Finland
