Finnish hotels are not certified in principle by the number of stars. Nevertheless, their equipment and service mostly correspond to three or four stars. The hotels are simpler in class, as well as hostels and apartments for rent to tourists very little, and it's not easy to book accommodation in them. At the same time, a settlement in Helsinki can not be called cheap.
Choosing between hotels in the center of Helsinki and in the suburbs, you should prefer it to the central (no more than 15 minutes walk from the station and the Esplanade area). You will not benefit greatly from the cost of accommodation outside the center, but you will spend quite a lot on the road: public transport in Helsinki is quite expensive.

Accommodation types and prices

So, most hotels in Helsinki are 3-4 * hotels with the cost of accommodation within € 100-180. In one of the best five-star hotels of the city - Kämp - even more expensive: the suite will cost € 250-350. Among the hotels of this class (but not having a confirmed 5 * certificate) are the Hilton Helsinki Strand, Palace Hotel and Scandic Grand Marina

The cost of accommodation in most hotels includes breakfast (which is a plentiful buffet) and a visit to the sauna in the morning . At any other time the order of the sauna will already be paid. Saunas VIP in 4-5 * hotels are usually paid at any time of day. A pleasant bonus to visiting the sauna will be a warm - so-called. "Tropical" pool.

In Helsinki, in fact, there are no cheap hotels: the most simple hotel will provide a traveler with a room for at least € 60-80. Cheaper € 20 can only cost accommodation in the general hall of the hostel. A separate double room at the hostel costs € 40-60. However, on their own, Helsinki hostels are quite comfortable: they have nothing to do with a student gym with two-story beds, a person for twenty, as sometimes frighten tourists. The main disadvantage: a small number of places.

In search of economical housing it is worth paying attention to apartments for rent: arriving for more than 3 days, it is quite convenient and economically to stay in the apartment (especially if traveling a large company). At the height of the season, they are always in short supply: it's better to take care of accommodation long before the trip.

On weekdays the prices for accommodation in hotels are usually higher than once and a half times, so it's not only interesting but also profitable to come to Helsinki for the weekend. However, throughout the summer in most hotels there are "weekend" prices. Discounts begin to operate after Yuhannus (Ivanov's Day), which is celebrated at the end of June, and lasts until early August. In hostels, on the contrary, on weekends and in summer prices are slightly higher, and there are still few vacancies.
