Which city is considered the capital of Estonia?

Responsible information department of "Tourism Slices"
The capital of modern Estonia is Tallinn. He has a rich and long history: the first official mention of him was made in 1154 by the Arab scholar Al-Idrisi. Then the city was called Kolyvan (Quoluwany), under which name it appears in the ancient Russian chronicles and, up to the 17th century, in colloquial speech.

But the Scandinavians in the 11th and 12th centuries called the Estonian capital Lindanis. But already in the 13th century, after the city was under the rule of the Danes, and the Germans, the name again changes, to Reval or Reval, depending on the pronunciation.

Revel kept his name long while he was a free Hanseatic city , under the rule of Sweden, and then the Russian Empire. The next change of name took place already in 1919: then Revel became Tallinn, and a year later the capital of the Estonian state. In 1925, it was decided to call the city in the feminine gender - Tallinna. After 8 years, the former name was returned.

But the capital status of Tallinn has not changed since 1920, and when the state was part of the USSR, and when it became independent in 1991.
