Narva is the easternmost point of Estonia and the whole of the European Union, as well as the most Russian-speaking city of the country. For several years after the restoration of Narva, the Soviet authorities did not allow the pre-war population to return to the city. Therefore, today 90% of Narva's population are Russian-speakers.
Narva - the third largest city in Estonia - boasts a truly long and rich history. People lived here since the Stone Age, and the fortress was built already in 1172. In 1492 Ivan III also built the fortress Ivan-Gorod. In the 16th and 17th centuries Narva crossed from Sweden to Russia and back to 1704.
The most eastern Estonian city will be separated from the Russian Ivangorod only by a small river Narva . The inhabitants of two settlements perfectly see the outlying areas of each other, but the people of Novgorod are lucky more - they also have a beautiful panorama of the powerful castle of Narva . Alas, most of the old buildings of the city were destroyed in the Second World War during the offensive of the Soviet army (1944) . But what remains for Narva is not to take it away: Today this is one of the most quiet, cozy and cozy cities of the country where it is worth spending a day or two studying the fascinating rooms of the Narva Museum .
