In Santo Domingo, there is the home of the son of Christopher Columbus, the first fort in the Caribbean and the beautiful small colonial center of the city.

Santo Domingo is divided by the river into the old colonial part on the west coast and the eastern, Oriental Santo Domingo, more modern. In the colonial part, many Victorian-style houses have been preserved, as well as the National Theater, the Palacio Nacional, the Museum on Plaza de la Cultura, and the famous George Washington Avenue (better known as El Malecon), where the majority hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions

In the eastern part of the city there are such important attractions as the Columbus lighthouse, the Los Tres Ojos national park and the Aquarium. In the vicinity of Santo Domingo there is a botanical garden (Jardin Botanico) in the north and Parade Mirador Sur in the south.

In addition, the city has many museums where you can hide from the heat and learn much about the history of the city and the country. The most interesting are the Colonial Museum of Las Casas Reales, the Dominican Museum, the Center for French Culture, the Museum of Weapons del Rescato Submarine, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of History and Geography, the Amber World Museum, and the La Caleta Museum with an underwater park and the zoo.
