Prague Castle is the largest fortress in the Czech Republic, stretching along the top of a hill on the left bank of the Vltava River. It is a major historical, political and cultural center of the country, founded in the 9th century
Hradčany Square
Hradčany Square, located at the entrance to the fortress, has still preserved its medieval layout. Here is the palace of Schwarzenberg-Lobkowicz, which now houses the Military History Museum, the Sternberg Palace with the National Gallery and the beautiful Archbishop's Palace of the 16th century
Prague Castle
Inside Grada from Gradchanskaya Square lead the front gate, which has an honor guard , with which tourists are so fond of taking pictures. Every day at noon, there is an honorable change of guard. On the first from the gate ("Honor") courtyard of the Castle is the Theresian Palace. Further, in the second courtyard, they lead the baroque gate of Matiash. Here is the chapel of the Holy Cross, two fountains and a well with a forged dome lattice of the Renaissance.
In the third courtyard - the oldest part of the Castle - is the famous cathedral of St. Vitus (Witt). This stunning Gothic structure is considered the "visiting card" of the city, and its oldest part, the chapel of St. Wenceslas, in which the "people's Czech saint" was buried in 932. It is a major center of pilgrimage.

Zlatá ulička - a fenced alley with several tiny houses, where, according to legend, the alchemists of Rudolph II lived, who were trying to find a "philosopher's stone". In addition, in house number 22, Franz Kafka lived for two years. Nowadays, the street became very popular among tourists: the houses were converted into souvenir shops with a variety of galleries and expositions. Entrance to the "Zlaty lane" is paid for, ~ 250 CZK.

In the Royal Hradčany garden the Queen Anne's Summer Palace and the Singing Fountain are wonderful examples of the Italian renaissance. In addition, there is an interesting ancient Powder Bridge and the nearby tower, which now houses an exhibition of art crafts from the times of Rudolph II and an exhibition on the history of the Powder Tower. Next to it is the Lion House building, where forest predators were kept at the time of the same Rudolph II.

Walking through the Prague Castle January 14, 2015
Tatiana
was here in November 2014
We went to Prague in November 2014 and of course went for a walk around the Prague Castle . In order not to climb up the ladder from Malostranskaya metro station, we passed 2 stops by tram and found ourselves directly in front of St. Vitus Cathedral. But they decided not to go at once, but go see the solemn change of the guard, which takes place every day at 12 noon, especially since we arrived here shortly before this event. A lot of people have already gathered on the square in front of the Royal Palace - tourists, souvenir sellers, actors ... Read full review

Prague Castle - City in the City 01 April 2014

I go on an excursion to Prague Castle, I recommend to plan it for the whole day, and it's better to split the visit for two days in order to better view all the sights and get around the numerous museums on its territory. We, for example, watched everything outside the first day, which is very much. Only St. Vitus Cathedral can be seen for half a day, the entrance is free. Inside there is a very beautiful stained-glass window created by Alfons Mucha, and next to the cathedral is a decorative grille with scenes matching ... Read the whole review

Prague Castle is the real heart of the city, as it is here that most of the historical and cultural sights are concentrated. It is a majestic and impregnable castle on the left bank of the Vltava River. In addition, it is the largest presidential presidential residence in the world. On a tour of the Prague Castle it is best to allocate a minimum of 3-4 hours, since in a shorter period it is simply impossible to bypass all its unique monuments and buildings. All excursion programs begin ... Read full review
At the gates of Prague Castle October 22nd, 2013

At the gates of the Prague Castle there is a huge crowd. It turns out that the Prague Castle, like the current residence of the Czech president, is guarded by a special guards unit, whose guard change is now taking place. The guys are dressed in very beautiful uniforms. Poor things! Stand in front of a crowd of onlookers who are constantly using you as a monkey for taking pictures ("That's it, like that! And make a hand as if you want to hug him!"), And not even have the right to move - torture, in my opinion, yet that.
Begins to spoil ... Read the whole review

In the Prague Castle we visited several times. There are mandatory guided tours, but there is always a feeling that you have not seen the droplets of those miracles that conceals this largest castle in the world. Therefore, in the next visit we decided to buy a ticket and bypass it all. Entrance tickets cost, it seems, for 350 kronor and included an open viewable part of St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, art galleries, the Powder Tower, the Rosenberg Palace, Zlatu Street and the Daliborka Tower. The cost of ... Read full review

Prague Castle - every stone has a history 10 September 2013

Prague Castle we visited with the group, the guide told a lot of interesting things, I, as usual, remember some nonsense. In the courtyard there is a well and a cage. According to the legend, incorrect wives were put in this cage and slowly lowered into the water. Well, people loved to see such a spectacle with pleasure.
In general, the Prague Castle I really liked, especially the fact that the president can safely pass the crowd of tourists to his workplace. And no flashers, helicopters and snipers! Yes and machines have ... Read full review

Prague Castle - the heart of the city August 30, 2013

Prague Castle is a must visit in the city. After all, it is considered the largest castle in Europe, although it consists of several yards. In one of the courtyards is the St. Vitus Cathedral, which can be seen from anywhere in Prague. Besides him, there is an old and new Royal palaces. We, as tourists, liked the old Royal Palace more, although not the palace itself, but the guard change near it, I think at 12 o'clock in the afternoon (I do not remember exactly how the guide brought us here during the walking tour). In Prague ... Read the full review
