"Moravian Venice" ... this is the name of a small town called Telc. And this, without exaggeration, is the most accurate epithet. And how else can you name the city built among the lakes, surrounded by a bypass channel, with a fabulous Renaissance castle and the square that the Italian masters built?
A paragraph of history
The date of the foundation of Telč is 1099, when the local lord here erected a chapel in honor of the Virgin Mary .And the first documentary mention of the city dates back to 1333, when the Margrave of Karel (the future famous Charles IV) acquired a local castle, which later sold to Oldrich III of Hradec .The city around the castle grew, and not least thanks to the winning geographical location: there was a brisk trade around the main square merchants built their own houses - one more magnificent, with fabulous multi-colored gables and rich furnishings .
During the 16th century, the lords of Hradec have the city, and the main square to this day bears the name of Zachary of Hradec, in which the old fortress, which has served its end, is rebuilt in Renaissance style by the masters Antonio Vlacci and Baldassar de Ronio. A significant trace in the history and architecture of Telchus left the Order of Catholic Jesuit monks. Under which there is built a college, an observatory, a music school, and of course many temples, some of which have survived to this day.

Telča Castle
Of course, one of the main attractions of Telch is his castle. The idea to rebuild the fortress came to the master of these lands of Zahiriya from Hradec after visiting Genoa, where he was imbued with the spirit of the Renaissance, which he brought back to his homeland. For the reincarnation of the castle, a wealthy nobleman ordered from Italy the masters Antonio Vlacci and Baldassar Maggi de Ronio. The castle's interest is made according to all the canons of the Renaissance and strikes the visitor with its splendor and delicate taste.
In the Golden Hall there are pictures of the family of Zachariah, the next room is a richly decorated Treasury, in the Blue hall you can admire the coat of arms of the Hradec family, and in the African and Knights' Halls there are many different strange things .The castle of the All Saints, where Zacharias and his wife Katerina are buried, are of special love and interest to visitors. .In addition to the amazing beauty of the halls and rooms, the castle has an art gallery and a historical museum .You can get a lot of fun, strolling along the castle park and admiring the peaked turrets of Telch, rest in the shade of the trees .
Other attractions
Not far from the main square are the Church of the Name of Christ (Kostel Jména Ježíš), built (like the gymnasium and seminary next to the school) by Jesuits. St. James Church attracts travelers with its 60-meter bell tower, on which hang two bells of surprisingly pure sound. It is worthwhile to climb the bell tower of the oldest building in the city - the Church of the Holy Spirit, from where it opens a striking view of the town, located among the crystal clear lakes.
