Entertainment, excursions and sightseeing Plzeя
Acquaintance with the city is recommended to start from the viewing platform of the Gothic Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (62 m), located on the Republic Square, from the height of which opens an impressive view. The tower of the cathedral (102, 6 m) was the final monumental chord during the construction of the medieval Pilsen, and it is still the highest in the Czech Republic to this day. According to the city legend, touching the angel on the fence of the cathedral brings luck, though, it is possible for this to stand a long line of hunters for happiness.
Walk through the historic center, which is a motley canvas, "interweaving" the buildings and monuments of all possible architectural epochs: near the cathedral there is a "representative" of the Renaissance - the City Hall (XVI), a Baroque monument - the Bishopric building, the Museum of Western Bohemia - late Renaissance, the building of a large synagogue - the Mavro-Romanesque style of the 19th century.
The main modern attraction attracting the greatest number of tourists is the Museum of Brewing (Veleslavínova 6). In addition to visiting the museum itself, excursions are organized to the Pilsner Urquell or Gambrinus brewery located in the Plzeňský Prazdroj (U Prazdroje 7).
On the territory of the museum there is the beginning of the exposition of the mysterious Pilsen historical dungeon. The system of underground passages and corridors that runs through the entire historical center is the largest in central Europe. Going down to the catacombs, you will see an exhibition of archaeological finds, as well as a replica of the medieval urban water system. Ticket price: 90 CZK for adults and 60 CZK for children for a 50-minute tour.
