A bit of history Today Kutna Hora is "town", but due to the extremely unconventional monument in the form of a complete bone church, tourists here more than in any other UNESCO monument . His story is that: in the 13th century, the local abbot returned from a pilgrimage from Jerusalem with a handful of Holy Land, which he scattered over the local cemetery . This fact allowed the place of rest of the townspeople to get status sacred . And soon the cemetery, becoming popular , Grew to unprecedented dimensions . Repose here was equivalent to the fact that the deceased directly goes to heaven ... Europe then was struck by the plague, the cemetery workers were forced to bury the dead "instead of the" old - ancient by shifting the bones in the tomb (called ossuary) and disposal in the vacated places of new dead bodies . As a result of such manipulations, the places in the cemetery were resold six times, "collecting" the remains of 40,000 people .

Bone

Bones demanded more honorable position, but opportunities for this was not enough. Therefore, a certain monk at the beginning of the 16th century carefully washed and bleached every bone, combining the pyramid, with halls, naves and courses, from the formed "material". The resulting prototype of one of the church is not destroyed, however, in view of the dubious morality of what is happening, not knowing what to do, four centuries to the "church" access was closed.

In the 18th century the owner of the cemetery land, Prince Schwarzenberg ordered to clean up the resulting interior items , for which he took the local master Rint . Managing the bones, skulls and all parts of human skeletons, Rint built the coat of arms of the prince, the chandelier, the walls, niches, pillars, vaults, shelves, and much more. . The newly formed church, to contemplate which and come to Kutnu-Gora tourists from all over the world, causes ambiguous feelings . Where to put the remains of people if there is no place in the cemetery? Why not build a spiritual, sacral building, now even more reminiscent of the frailty of being .
