Undoubtedly, one of the main and bright attractions of Chile are the Andes, which stretch across the country from the Bolivian plateau in the north to Tierra del Fuego in the south by almost 9,000 km. In places this mountain range reaches a width of more than 500 km, and height - about 4000 m.

Areas
In general, the whole country can be divided into three regions: the Andes in the east, the low coastal mountains in the west and the plateau zone. In the north of Chile, the Andes reach their maximum height.
The peak of the mountain of Ojos del Salado, located on the border with Argentina, is pathetically prominent. The central Andes are slightly smaller, here are the most important passes of the mountain range, which are constantly stormed by fans of mountain tourism. 800 km they stretch between the cities of Coquimbo and Concepcion.
Tupungato (6,570 m) and Maypo (5,290 m) volcanoes rise above the mountain chain, the Ljuljaylako volcano (6,739 m) and the second highest in the entire western hemisphere, the Ochos del Salado peak (6,893 m), rise to the north.
Southern Andes, concluded between the cities of Concepción and Puerto Montt, a strip of mountain peaks, glacial valleys, lakes and noisy waterfalls.
Flora and fauna
Thanks to the diversity of the Andes, the relief of Chile is a picturesque map of rapidly changing landscapes: here and water erosion zones, and volcanic heights, and glistening glaciers in the sun. "Mediterranean" thickets of evergreen thorn bushes Espinales, maquis or Chaparral are replaced by moisture-loving persea (Persea lingue of the laurel), dark emerald beech (Nothofagus dom-beyi), Canis (Drimys winteri) and relic palm (Jubea spectabilis)
In the central region begins to appear coniferous aroma, and just above the eye pleasing juicy alpine meadows. The valley of the Eastern Andes has long been plowed up by the quick inhabitants of the nearest settlements for wheat, vineyards, orchards, fodder and garden crops. Here the main cities of Chile are concentrated.
