Vitosha Mountain is a national park of Bulgaria, located near the southern outskirts of Sofia, in the north-west of the country. This massive massif, resembling a huge dome, is one of the highest ski resorts in Bulgaria: it's enough to mention that the lift goes to the base for 25 minutes to estimate its scale. Therefore, snow here lasts 150 days a year: falls in December and stubbornly refuses to melt until late spring.

The mountain of Vitosha is a vivid confirmation that our ideas about a country are most often unambiguous, whereas this country can surprise us at any time .We are used to the fact that Bulgaria is a land of seaside, black-eyed handsome and slavish slobbery .In fact, it turns out that in the winter there is clearly something to do: active, fun, interesting .Vitosha is experiencing a peak in popularity between December and January, although the season here lasts until April .Snowy slopes, a deep blue and white shade of landscapes, safety and comfort - that's what Vitosha defines to date .This is confirmed by the growing popularity of the resort and the expansion of the geography of tourists coming to Vitosha from Germany, the USA, Australia, and not only from neighboring countries .A half-meter thick snow is taken care of by parents with children, sportsmen, party-goers, colleagues .A popular way to have a great time is just to come to the park for the weekend - a favorite with the inhabitants of Sofia .

History and legend

If the Slavic culture prevails in the north of the country, then to the south of the Balkan peninsula, Thracian traits are more prominent. At the same time in the Bulgarian language, beautiful and interesting as a game, there are both the words of Turkic origin and history, as well as the originally Slavic ones, to which the Russian ear reacts like a strange children's song with semi-familiar sounds.

So Vitosha - a gentle name, similar to a tender child's name, was, in fact, the name of a man, according to legend belonged to the local prince. The story speaks of the first mention of the massif about the beginning of the 11th century. After 8 centuries, at the end of the 19th century a group of several hundred mountaineers managed to climb Vitosha.

The highest point of Vitosha is the Black Peak, its height reaches 2290 m. Gradually the peak began to acquire the glory of the cult, the mountain, on which any climber considers it his duty to climb.

The charm and charm of Vitosha makes it possible to see it directly from the windows of houses in the Bulgarian capital.

Trails of Vitosha

The total length of the ski runs is 4500 m, they can take up to 3600 people per hour. The longest slope in the resort (2800 m) pleases with the equipped "red" and "black" trails, and the Black Peak (Cherni-Vryh) with a maximum height of 2290 m is suitable only for experienced skiers. However, on Vitosha there are also enough "blue" and "green" tracks. For lovers "to dissect" along the virgin land - 11 km of plain ski tracks.

On Vitosha, people like to spend the weekend residents of Sofia, so these days there are maximum lines for the lifts: up to 30 minutes.

Thanks to the fact that on a relatively flat top of Vitosha there is a park, this place is really attractive literally for everyone. After all, not only fans of thrill, extreme sports of all stripes, ready to climb to 3 thousandth height can come here, but also lovers of quiet recreation in nature, friends who decided to gather for a picnic, families with children, lovers. The national park can please the guests of fifty hiking trails, everything necessary for a fun, quiet and active holiday.

Ski pass for the whole day costs 16 BGN, for half a day - 12 BGN. Local unsportsmanlike entertainment: a lot of restaurants in the traditional style, bars and discos.

Hotels

Several hotels are waiting for their guests in the National Park. Interestingly, it is possible to rent rural houses and huts for overnight accommodation, which not only transmit the life of the local population, but also open panoramic views of the ski slopes and trails.

Entertainment, excursions and sights of Vitosha

In the winter season, carnivals are popular, which the administration of the National Park organizes for the guests. For the athletes there are thematic ski competitions, for more experienced climbers, serious contests are organized. The main charm of the resort, without looking at the seasonality and time of year in general, you can call the Bulgarian cuisine. Need I say that the resort, taverns, bars, cafes and restaurants popular with tourists from all corners of the earth are literally dark.

Vitosha, Bulgaria

Full borrowings from neighboring Greeks and Turkish conquerors, Bulgarian cuisine abounds with meat dishes, seasonings, various salads and flavored with fine Bulgarian southern wine. Some dishes Bulgarians prepare for certain holidays - national, religious, etc. You will be fortunate if you, after visiting a beautiful park on Vitosha Mountain, catch a feast on the day of St. Nicholas on December 6, New Year or Christmas Eve.

Also popular are sightseeing and other excursions around Sofia, visits to theatrical and opera performances, Rila and Bachkovo monasteries, a trip to the historical center of Plovdiv, the museum town of Koprivshtitsa.
