Prior to joining the eurozone on January 1, 2002, Austrian shilling was the national currency of Austria. Was in circulation in Austria since March 1, 1925, replacing the Austrian kroon, devalued by inflation, until 1938, when, after the Anschluss with Germany, was temporarily replaced by the Reichsmark. After the war in 1945, the shilling again became the monetary unit of the country.
