The Zillertal Valley is located on the territory of the federal state of Tyrol and is divided into four major skiing regions: Fügen-Kaltenbach, Zell-Gerlos, Mayrhofen-Hippach and Tux-Finkenberg. The valley begins near the town of Jenbach, which is 15 minutes from Innsbruck by motorway to Vienna.

How to get here
The nearest airports are located in Innsbruck (50 km), Munich (170 km) and Salzburg (150 km). In addition, the valley can be reached by train or bus company Zillertalbahn. Regular trains run between Jenbach and Mayrhofen, stopping at Fugen, Udernse, Kaltenbach, Zell am Ziller, Hippach.

A bit of history
First the written mention of the Zillertal Valley dates from the year 889 when King Arnulf of Carinthia granted part of his lands to the Archbishop of Salzburg - at the same time the ownership of the valley was divided along the Ziller River. Even now this division is well traced - the churches on the right side of the river usually have green turrets and belong to the Salzburg diocese, and churches on the left side of the river have red turrets and belong to the Innsbruck Diocese.
In 1805 Austria was is forced to cede Tyrol to Bavaria, but the Zillertal valley continued to be considered part of Salzburg, as it remains to this day.
Transport
Regular trains run between all valley resorts Zillertals Second Railway, opened in 1902. In addition, from the resort to the resort, you can travel by bus.
Zillertal Trails
In the Zillertal Valley there are 668 km of trails of various difficulty levels: 94 km of black, 398 km of reds and 175 km of blue.
Fügen village, opening The valley, (Fugen) consists of two parts, Fugen and Fügenberg and has 2 blue and 6 red tracks. A large selection of different routes is offered by the two adjacent combined skiing areas of Hochfügen and Hochzillertal located above the village of Kaltenbach
The Zell-Gerlos region, or as it is called the Zillertal Arena, consists of 5 villages - Zell am Ziller (580 m), Gerlos (1300 m), Kriml (1976 m), Wald (900 m) and Königsleiten (1600 m). The total length of the trails is 166 km - 10 km black, 114 km red and 42 km blue.
10 km from the Zillertal Arena is located the Mayrhofen-Hippach ski area, which also includes several villages - Mayrhofen itself (630 m), Hippach ( 630 m), Ramsau (630 m) and Schwendau (630 m). 159 km of tracks are equipped in the region (45 km blue, 94 km red, 20 km black)

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Zillertal
In Fugene, you can visit a museum with a cheese factory, telling you how 100 years ago you made cheese. In Mayrhofen there is a water park Erlebnisbad with a 100-meter water slide, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna, a jacuzzi and a solarium. The water park is open daily from 10:30 to 21:00. On the outskirts of Mayrhofen there is the Zillertal Dairy Plant (Sennerei Zillertal) for the production of cheeses, milk, butter. The plant is open to visitors daily except on Sundays from 08:00 to 18:00, on Saturday until 1.00 pm
Hintertux glacier is the most high-altitude cave in Austria - the Spannagelhöhle cave with deep mines formed by layers of colored and striped marble. Currently, only a small part of the cave is opened for visitors - about 500 m. For the first time the entrance to the cave in 1919 was discovered by Alois Hotter. To reach the cave you can by cable car to the top of the glacier. Entrance tickets are sold in the hut of Spannagelhaus, under which the entrance to the cave is located. The ticket price is 11 EUR, for owners of a single ski pass - 9, 8 EUR
25 m directly under the ski runs located on the Hintertux glacier, hidden so-called "Ice Palace» (Natureispalast), formed over many years naturally without any human involvement. The halls and corridors of the palace are filled with ice crystals of various shapes and sizes and are illuminated with colored lamps - from icy blue and turquoise to red. Excursions are held every hour from 09:30 to 14:30, duration - 1 hour, cost - 8 EUR. The starting point is the upper station of the Gletscherbus lift 3.
In Finkenberg there is a mineralogical museum with an impressive exposition of semiprecious stones - quartz, amethyst, rutile, adular, formed millions of years ago.
