The Schönbrunn Palace (German Schloß Schönbrunn) is the Viennese residence of the Austrian emperors, one of the most important architectural buildings of the Austrian Baroque (architect - Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach).
In addition to the palace itself with its magnificent architecture and unique exposition, the Palm House, the Glorietta Pavilion, the wonderful park, the labyrinth, the oldest zoo are interesting in Schönbrunn.
In the local cafe several times a day, a strudel show is held, during which the secrets of cooking this dessert are opened and definitely give a try.
Exposition
Several halls and forty rooms are open for visitors (the palace plan):
- The Mirror Hall (Spiegelsalon), in which, under Maria Theresa, ministers took the oath. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played in it for the empress. In 1747, these chambers were taken away to the Princess Charlotte of Lorraine (sister of Franz I - the wife of Maria Theresa).
- The Great Hall of Roses (Rosa-Zimmer) is named after the artist Joseph Rose, who designed the interior of the room. The wall paintings depict the landscapes of Switzerland and Northern Italy. Noteworthy are the portrait of Maria Theresa, richly decorated clock on the table and blue and white floor vases from Asia.
- A large gallery - a room 43 meters long and 10 meters high was used for the audience of the emperors. During the Second World War, the hall was partially destroyed, but in 1947-1949 it was rebuilt again.
- Small gallery, where small dining receptions, concerts and other events were organized. The bust of Marie Antoinette and Maria Carolina from marble, as well as two carved wood and gilded chandeliers decorate the gallery.
- Room Roesselzimmer, which was conceived as a room for games (Roessel - German "chess horse"). Since the 19th century, it has been used as a canteen.
- The ceremonial hall (originally called Batagliensaal - "battle hall"). On the walls you can see the episodes of the great battles drawn in the second half of the 18th century. In the famous Musikfest painting in the left corner you can see little Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Reviews of Schönbrunn (5)
Pink mood June 04, 2014
I liked the zoo, the gardens in the palace and the palace from the inside. Physically there was not enough time for the carriage museum and labyrinth. In general, one day on Schönbrunn is not enough, all the same something you will not have time to see, or if you gallop on all the objects, then you will not enjoy the beauty of these places.

Pale excursion February 11, 2014
In Vienna, I came all alone, because none of my friends wanted to join me. Everyone was either busy with work or preparing for the session. The very city I really liked, very rich and lively, but visiting the palace of Schönbrunn did not impress me. Probably, it's all about taste, for example, I like more cognitive excursions. The building itself is large enough and massive, and the successfully chosen yellow color gives it lightness. Near the castle there are many interesting places, I ... Read the whole review

Vienna Zoo. The most elegant November 04, 2013
The menagerie was located in the park of the summer imperial residence, not far from the Schönbrunn Palace, so only the members of the royal family and their honored guests could admire the animals for the first quarter of a century.
However, the excursions here were always conducted: Maria Theresa, who had many children, was knowledgeable in education and believed ... Read the whole review
